When a Community Comes Together

This is an update to yesterday’s posting in Reference the Westboro Baptist Church and their intent to protest funeral and burial services held today for Marine Corporal Kevin Reinhard of Colonia, NJ.  According to those I know who turned out to show their support for the family, the five protestors who showed up were drowned out by the over 2500 people who lined Inman avenue as the funeral procession made its way.  The NJ chapter of the Patriot Guard Riders showed up to place themselves between the protestors and the mourners and provided an escort from the church to the cemetery.

It has been many years since I left the neighboring town of Rahway to join the Army, close to two decades.  I am not sure if there have been any other casualties in the immediate area, a shortcoming I intend to remedy in the near future.  It does the heart of this Jersey boy good to see so many people turn out in memory of a hometown boy and to support his family in their time of need.  The two photos below are a small testament to the strength of community and the impact one person can make upon it.
